Senegal for beginners
Last week I was a guest speaker in each of the 9th grade Global Studies classes at school. I presented some of the basic information about Senegal as a culminating activity for their of Islam.
If you are local, I'd be happy to come speak with your students! I can adapt this presentation for length as well as age range and student interest.
Since I will be traveling to a Senegalese school in April, each of the 9th graders created a postcard from Dansville to a Senegalese recipient. I hope to have the Senegalese kids send responses back as well.
Here's an example:
The students used my beginner Wolof book to include a few phrases in the lingua franca of Senegal. They also used Google Translate with my assistance to translate their notes.
In a future post, I'll describe what I've done with French penpals here, too.
Have you done a classroom exchange or penpal project? What did you do to ensure its success?
