“Teach to the future, not the past.”

Global education is a lens through which we can teach and learn about the world from multiple perspectives.  Global Education means that students learn about the world and how it works while acquiring the skills to be successful in a digital, globalized age. Global citizenship means that students learn about their local impact on the world as well as the world’s impact on their local community and they respond in an informed, responsible way.  Global competency starts with students asking good questions---students are engaging intellectually and emotionally with the world and its challenges at both a local and global level.   Students learn how to compete by redefining success and interacting with people by learning to see from others’ perspectives.

Our students are 21st century learners who become global citizens and need to achieve these 4 competencies:

  1. Investigate the world

  2. Recognize perspectives

  3. Communicate ideas

  4. Take action

Please read and respond to blog posts on the main page as well as check out the tabs.  STUDY explores the resources for becoming a global educator, TEACH demonstrates how to put this knowledge to use in the classroom, and TRAVEL highlights some of the international research I conduct as well a list of opportunities for educators to travel and learn.

Welcome to Toujours Etudiante! I've created this site as a fellow in  the Teachers for Global Classrooms Program. I'm a French and ENL teacher in Western New York.  I've worked with English learners from PreK to 12th grade and I teach French at all levels including AP starting this year!

Here I've collected my thoughts on global education.  I hope you'll spend some time exploring!
